When invited, in 2016, to be a member of the Academy, Ryan Coogler declined and remains a nonmember. "If I'm going to be a part of organizations, they're going to be labor unions, where we're figuring out how to take care of each other's families and health insurance."

A senior scholar said collaborating with me was "One of the most supportive experiences in my academic career." My goodness. I'm undone.
