Today's super late #ootd is this 1885 bustle day dress. The gorgeous violet pattern that works well with the excellently tailored bodice. One interested fact is that the underskirt is made of grey denim! Yep, they had denim back then! @V_and_A #fashionhistory

Well I hope your weekend has brought fun and restfulness in equal measure. December is a trying month in many ways, merriment aside, so don a #1930s #negligée set and waltz your way to bed! Night! @metmuseum #fashionhistory

Polished to a burnished glow, this c1913 gown has all the columnar elegance of a #bronze statue. It was made by the #Swedish designer Augusta Lundin to grace an early 20th century soirée #goteborgsstadsmuseum #fashionhistory

This week's #FridayFrills looks like a classic queen costume you'd see at a store or in a movie set in the Middle Ages or Tudor times, but this real silk brocade evening gown with metallic threads and beaded trim was made in 1895-6 NYC. #Fashionhistory

#HappyDecember1st! We are here at the last month of 2021. So today's #ootd is this cozy 1920s blue wool knitted jersey with silk lining and fur trimmings. I adore the buttons down the front. So elegant! Unsurprisingly, it was owned by Queen Maud. @nasjonalmuseet #Fashionhistory

Today's #ootd is this 1810s pelisse (overcoat). It is made of silk and @JBCollection_uk notes that "like many pelisses this example provides neither warmth nor protection." So, fashionable but impractical outerwear is nothing new! But my, oh my, isn't it lovely?! #fashionhistory

In the mid-1810s the carrick coat, a cape-like duster that featured three to five feathered layers of capelets that covered the shoulders, was introduced and became widely popular as a “bad weather” coat. Read more! #fashionhistory

Today's #ootd is this 1912-14 Girolamo Giuseffi evening dress. It's made of silk netting, chiffon, metallic thread, beads, sequins, and pearls, which is why it is so light and airy! I can imagine a winter fairy queen wearing something like this. @NewfieldsToday #Fashionhistory
