This is W.E.B. Du Bois, who, like me, was "born with a veil, and gifted with second-sight." What a wonder to "see" him seeing--to see the quizzical quality in those eyes as they move about.
A wonder...and maybe a terror, too. https://t.co/yueJpd717v
Ibram X. Kendi would ask James Baldwin, Zora Neale Hurston and W.E.B. Du Bois to dinner: "At some point, I suspect Hurston would get tired of Du Bois and grab Baldwin and hit the music." https://t.co/c48rzr8lIJ

"Our rulers are afraid of an idea; tempted by a vision of power which this idea fights. The power they crave long misled and slaughtered the peoples of Europe and Asia, and now insidiously creeps into our own fever-mad heads; and that is imperialism."
W. E. B. Du Bois, 1951 https://t.co/YwabPJ0VzN

Just finished reading Christopher McAuley's The Spirit vs. The Souls: Max Weber, W.E.B. Du Bois and the Politics of Scholarship. I got the book when it came out but only now got to read it. It is really very good! I highly recommend it.
W.E.B. Du Bois on the value of the "truth-seeking ideal" of scholarship in a democracy and amidst the "intense feeling that clouds the discussion of a burning social question." (Dusk of Dawn, 1940). https://t.co/uW8vyAupYK
Amazing! Establishes W.E.B. Du Bois as a data storytelling pioneer, who balanced best practices with "data art" to grab attention. Loved @Jasonforrestftw detective work (rediscovering a lost viz!) & @ajstarks innovation in recreating Du Bois's hand-drawn work w modern tools. https://t.co/YbI5NcA59H
On February 24, Amnesty International SJC held a guerilla seminar on two short texts—“Jesus Christ in Texas” by W. E. B. Du Bois and “Riot” by Gwendolyn Brooks—in celebration of Black History Month.

Born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, W.E.B. Du Bois was integral in the formation of the @NAACP & served as editor of the association’s magazine @thecrisismag. Du Bois’ ideas have served as inspiration for generations of activists in the fight for equality. #BlackHistoryMonthhttps://t.co/cT5WXpQmrs
Fantastic piece by @AnnaHolmes on "The Brownies’ Book", a magazine launched in W. E. B. Du Bois for Black children: https://t.co/3cd4qUokEa
It only lasted two years, but it created cultural echoes that lasted for decades
