7th February 2020:
Roger and Rafa play an exhibition match, in front of a record crowd. One of the last large-scale events before the pandemic.
It would be their last ever meeting on the court before Roger announced his retirement.
The dancing 🕺😂
Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal ugly crying while holding hands together at Federer's farewell, is the single most defining image and memory I can think of that may help recast what "masculinity" is. Men cry. They hold hands. They show feelings. There's nothing "unmanly" about it ❤️
I just noticed towards the end where Roger’s mom hugs Andy, and Roger’s dad must have been asking Roger where’s Rafa and you can see Roger pointing and Robert walks against traffic to get to Rafa to hug him. Awww 🥰 😭
thinking about how roger said “towards the end it’s gonna get bitter/fierce between me and rafa” about the fedal rivalry compared to sampras/agassi only for 12 years down the line for him to personally ask rafa to play one last doubles with him on the day he retires from tennis
Now seriously, Rafa put his life on hold while being distressed, sleep deprived and worried cause he didn't want to fail Roger. He went to London with a torn ab and a pregnant wife who is due in like 10 days, to hold his hand during his farewell ceremony. Is it clicking or..?
