Spent 2+ years advocating, surviving death threats, getting arrested and fighting a case for the removal of the statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest. So many elected officials and experts told us it would never happen. This weekend it’ll be removed. #ProtestingWorks

Before becoming the 1st Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, Nathan Bedford Forrest: -renounced his American citizenship -took up arms against America -slaughtered American troops But ppl who didn't want him honored in a state Capitol are the Anti-Americans.

Without historical context, we would have no Tennessee heroes, only villains. No Christian saints, only sinners. The left-wing activists who are pushing an anti-American, anti-history agenda here in Tennessee and across the nation will not stop with Nathan Bedford Forrest.

I say this as a Tennessean and a historian — nothing insults the state more than saying we can’t find anyone better than Nathan Bedford Forrest.

My position on the bust of Nathan Bedford Forrest has been clear and consistent over a number of years. I believe that context is needed, but not removal. No one is arguing that Forrest is not a problematic figure. He is. But there is more to his story.

Nathan Bedford Forrest is a “Southern” symbol, you say? Huh. Interesting.

The woke mob means ultimately to uproot and discard not just Southern symbols, but American heroes and history as well. This is not the end. It is the beginning.

Let's make a deal: you can keep your Nathan Bedford Forrest display, but it has to be this specific one.

@janecoaston "no one could stand up to modern scrutiny" while valid in the abstract is a curious way to talk about people who were really bad by the standards of their own time, and yet folks keep doing it

A statue of Confederate general and Ku Klux Klan leader Nathan Bedford Forrest was removed Friday after decades on display at the Tennessee Capitol. Forrest presided over the Fort Pillow massacre, where 300 Black Union soldiers were killed despite having already surrendered.

The "Southern symbol" and "American hero" he's talking about is the statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest, Confederate general and first grand wizard of the KKK, being removed from the TN State Capitol in Nashville. Republicans are constantly telling you who they are.

He's defending keeping a bust of Nathan Bedford Forrest in the Capitol, saying "Without historical context, we would have no Tennessee heroes, only villains." This is a lie. There are plenty Tennessee heroes who weren't [checks notes] the First Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan.
