'Willing to' as opposed to see it as a basic adjustment so women don't fear being killed walking home. As for the 24% who decided not all men was the correct reaction. NOT ALL MEN. BUT, ALWAYS MEN. Give me strength.

I know you’re all wondering what MY Book of the Year is. Well it’s time to tell you, and I’m certain you all could’ve guessed, it’s THE HIERARCHIES by Ros Anderson! This is genuinely one of the best books I’ve ever read and I encourage you all to read it.

If you want *my* tips on how to spot a "metadata geek", here you are: look for someone who gets everything done in 30 hours a week, because she's figured out how to get computers to do most of the work. Are we honestly still at the "ooh, metadata is for geeks" stage? #subtweet

This is so grim. It was obvious his remarks would start this up again. Really worrying and disappointing to see how this has all been handled over the last few months. Very ugly and I am very sorry that @chimenesuleyman @ProfSunnySingh and @monisha_rajesh are going through it.

This is a horrifying and stressful way to live, and Sunny, Monisha and Chimene shouldn't have to be doing this. I am filled with rage about what the industry has and continues to do to them.

Since this shit started, I have a new wake up ritual: I check Chimene and Monisha’s TLs first for any sign of distress. If they have been silent for longer than what I recognise is normal, I message them. And if they don’t reply soon, I start to panic for them.

@samatlounge When criticism is aimed at the tone of complaints about racism not the subject then the ‘be kind’ lot are really showing what they care about.

@samatlounge Yes, agree. I was not clear enough though - should have said that asking the victim of one’s racist act to just ignore it (ie all this “be kind” rubbish) is itself an act of racism towards that person. I understand a number of reasons why bystanders say nothing.

@samatlounge I also want to know what it means to “be kind” in the face of racism, other than: 1) to point it out as reasonably as you can, or 2) ignore it. The latter option IS racism, as anyone who has been on the receiving end knows. It’s the gaslighting that comes with racism.

very much this (also, nobody thinks they're ableist either and those two -ists intersect in particularly nasty ways, just while we're on the subject)

@samatlounge @Joannechocolat Totally, because if you refuse to acknowledge that you can have said something racist, because you're not that type of person, then it's a short step to "that person is is being oversensitive" and on to "that group is oversensitive."

@KiaThomasEdits @samatlounge It's as if the word is so linked with things they have been told are Big Bad, that they can't quite process the idea that Big Bad starts with lots of escalating instances of Little Bad.
