Much is made lately of unrealized gains being a means of tax avoidance, so I propose selling 10% of my Tesla stock. Do you support this?

It would seem that the final healthcare deal has been baked & it would seem that it’s going have some absurd unintended consequences. Get ready for seniors getting more injections. Here’s why…

This is pretty metal. Dozens of confirmed Orca attacks on boats have occurred in Spain and Portugal in the last few years. One hypothesis is that Orcas view boats as competitors for diminishing tuna supply and aim to destroy the boats' steering systems.

Everyone should watch this @PamelaBrownCNN interview with outgoing @NIHDirector Francis Collins to see how Collins uses misleading talking points to avoid any acknowledgement NIH was caught completely unaware its grantee was doing risky bat coronavirus research in Wuhan. THREAD

Effective immediately Long Beach is allowing cargo to be stacked up to 4 containers high at container lots across the city. And up to 5 containers with safety approvals. Previously 2 had been the limit. This is a temporary move to address our national supply chain emergency.

The SEC report on GME is out and the funniest part is that despite zillions of fintwit vol accounts falling over themselves to explain what a gamma squeeze was and why it was relevant at the time, it turns out that just … never happened?

Consistency in policy decisions, across the political spectrum, is in very short supply in today's world. This is a particularly clear example.

CA gov has required vaccines for all students yet is going to court to protect powerful prison guard union from a mandate. Prisons are an epicenter of spread; schools are not. Between protecting labor or marginalized communities, it's always the former.

Very cool paper simulating macro impacts of automation using a CGE model. Mostly unsurprising results including the inequality stimulating winner-take-all nature of capital- and skill-biased technical change. But it seems well-calibrated UBI policy could be the answer.

To my untrained eye, this seems like a reasonable thread on current supply-demand dynamics and what it will take to bring the system back to equilibrium. Prices just need to go up some more. But I don't dig the super broad use of the term stagflation.

1/13 The supply chain is running at capacity and cannot keep up with overstimulated demand thanks to 18 mos of fiscal/mon priming. This suggests the fix is not expanding supply, hard in the ST, but to raise prices high enough to reduce demand. A thread to explain @RaoulGMI

If you're a journalist, American or otherwise, you need to understand that turning a blind eye to this story moves the entire world toward a paradigm where the criminalization of journalism is routine. You have to speak up on this one. Read the source:

If just one semester of economics was required in all high schools, then the country would become so much richer that we could afford lots of other nice things, like better housing, better healthcare, better infrastructure, and yes, better education. A virtuous cycle.

"In modern capitalism, a whole galaxy of decisions that once upon a time would have rested solely with regulatory agencies, licensing boards, or the courts may now be addressed in one stroke by the inaccessible executives of tech oligopolies." True that.
