In short, society needs economists who are willing to call balls and strikes fairly, and are willing to call out the umps when they make bad calls.

It’s certainly fine to believe we should always abide by the ump’s call, but at that point you’re no longer an unbiased economist, you’re a political operative.
That’s fine, plenty of honorable people have that job, but an economist needs to be an unbiased outside observer.

Right now the economy is clearly in a recession, but we’re admonished to not criticize the ump’s call.

How ironic, a judge admonishing someone not to use their first amendment rights in a court case intended to criminalize first amendment rights.
The judge just admonished Jones for talking to the media during a brief recess. "We're not going to have that again," she said.
"Every participant in this trial ... is ordered to be silent out of this courtroom, or if there is any member of the jury in sight."
