I'll probably lock+abandon this account in a few months.
Moving to
@joinmastodon
here:
Why not come along? It's not difficult.
The only complication is that you need to choose a server:
Let me explain why... 🧵
I'm trying to get back to hobby digital painting after a very long break (as in, decades).
To motivate myself, I made an art account on Mastodon:
Follow me there if you want to see more!
As existing platforms become owned by American oligarchs, Mastodon represents the genuine free speech alternative.
It's not perfect, but you may be surprised at how much
@joinmastodon
has been able to accomplish without needing $45 billion investment.
Mastodon is decentralized, like web3 pretends to be — but it all works without wrapping it into a game of crypto-Monopoly.
If a community is toxic, other Mastodon servers can block them. As long as servers keep reasonably small, communities can self-moderate.

I’m increasingly nostalgic for a well-edited newspaper that gives me the news 24-36 hours late, with proper reflection and context.
There’s still one in Finland,

. When I move back I’ll get a paper subscription again
I feel like giving up on Twitter.
It’s unlikely Musk will improve it by turning it into Gab that sells $2 blue checkmarks.
Then again it hasn’t been getting any better as a public company either.
Maybe compromise: delete the phone app and check once a week on the site

#Picard
is a wonderful mess.
This week is extra because I love ridiculous Star Trek dream episodes.
One of my Voyager favorites is the one where they’re stuck in a VR world, menaced by *Fear Itself*, and the place looks like the set from a Kirk-meets-superbeing TOS episode.
