The documents illustrate how Catholic officials, aided by a team of lawyers, successfully fought years of federal government efforts to make them pay the full amounts promised in the landmark 2005 Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement.

Three Elders and survivors of IRS’s have requested an audience with Bishop Gagnon outside of St.Mary’s church. They are sitting out in the heat and were told he was unavailable. This is unacceptable! @cathedralwpg @Archwinnipeg #mbpoli #215children

8. That is, Indigenous and Librarians of Colour will keep getting frustrating and leave the profession, leaving privileged individuals to become library heads, board members, CEOs, etc. It’s a cycle of violence that needs to stop.

7. and who are established to start speaking out against this. Students and emerging professionals need our support. They are the future of the profession. If we do not start calling people out on their shit, we are just perpetuating the problem.

6. With no job security in the profession, victims are caught in a violent situations where they are unable to stand up for themselves without worrying about repercussions. My intent here is not to point fingers, but to call on allies who can see these problems

5. I have seen students and individuals in their early career get taken aside after their presentations by older, more established librarians and trustees (who have immense amounts of job security) to ask problematic questions and statements. This is a HUGE problem.

4. off of this colonial system. This unease turns to aggressive behaviour when you consider the power dynamics of a conference (and this goes for all conferences -- not just ALC). What I have witnessed over the past few days in this respect is truly appalling.

3. The more we talk about these things, the more we realize that we are not alone. We can stand together to improve this profession and make it one worthy of Indigenous Peoples and People of Colour: patrons and staff. The problem is the unease for those who are succeeding off

2. about libraries, race, privilege, emotional labour, and creating safe spaces for those who deserve it. These conversations have always been happening behind the scenes. This is nothing new. What is new is that the conversations are starting to delve into conference spaces.
