Russia has begun orchestrating votes in territories it occupies in Ukraine, a move met with international condemnation. The staged referendums on becoming part of Russia are expected to culminate with the annexation of an area larger than Portugal.

@nytimes Most people in those areas are ethnic Russians and want to be part of Russia anyway...especially after what the Ukrainians have been subjecting them to for the last eight years or so.

@GuillDeMara @nytimes In the Ukraine independence vote in 1991, Crimea voted 55% to be part of Ukraine. Every oblast voted even higher, and support has only risen since If there was legitimate anti-Ukrainian sentiment, I’d love to hear them out, but that sentiment is so astroturfed by Russia

@nytimes It's daylight robbery to grab another nation's territory. The modus operandi is simple. Do illegal referendums in the occupied areas before the brave Ukr forces reach there, annex the territories with Rus, declare victory in the war & use nuclear blackmail if others don't oblige.
