I went to Chizu in Tottori w/ @imakiky to talk to residents about the disparities in Japan’s voting system, which gives more weight to rural voters. One big, visible result: they get a lot of government spending: new library, schools, beautiful roads

Shigeru Ishiba, parliamentary member for Chizu's district, represents less than 1/2 the voters of his counterpart in Tokyo's densest district. He connects his constituents to agencies that distribute public funds. Recent result: $21m middle school for 134 students

@motokorich @imakiky Aw man, if you were still there, I would (very quietly, so as not to alert friends) give you the name of a 共産党 town councilwoman in Nambu-cho who would definitely have ALL the opinions about the election, rural voting, etc. She's something else. :)
