@lthomasnews It's recency bias but considering context that might be the KO of the Year for 2021. Title fights don't end in spinning backfist KOs and certainly not when a fighter is losing badly.

It’s an unlikely event given what had happened in other rounds, but exchanging in short space along the fence line like that where you have to angle off - the opposite of what Horiguchi was doing previously - is always a dangerous proposition.

Sergio Pettis promised his breakthrough finish against Kyoji Horiguchi in our pre-fight interview. Man delivered and then some. What a freaking shot!

@mookiealexander @lthomasnews Do the stakes matter for KO of year? But still a contender regardless

@mookiealexander @lthomasnews When you take in account how the fight was going for Pettis and how he was already the underdog, I got no issue with this being KO of the year

Holy Jeezus! @sergiopettis what an incredible KO. That’s gotta be the comeback of the year, KO of the year, & the Shocker of 2021. Wasn’t a fluke either, he practiced that sequence. To do that to Kyoji, in a fight he was soundly losing. I’m shook. #Bellator272 #MMA
