Finally online: my print article making the case that German director Rainer Werner Fassbinder personally knew West German left-wing terrorists in and around the Baader Meinhof Gang and was in dialogue with them throughout his artistic career

Great piece from @TRAILSANDWAYS : To avoid yet more climate dead ends, "organizing in workplaces, with unions, and in working-class electoral fights is our clearest path."

workers at an Amazon facility in Staten Island have collected enough signatures to hold an election on whether to join a union, according to U.S. labor officials.

Supports my pet theory that in the absence of any real political education, the cultural symbolism of the letter X makes Americans think that Marxism means “eXtreme socialism” or “X-rated socialism” or “the X Games of socialism” or “xXhardcoreXx socialism” etc

It didn't work though, in part because Boric supporters and labor unions and assorted activists rapidly self-organized rides to the polls — and also in part because public transit was still running, facilitating democracy, a strong symbol of Boric's political message

This is because Boric is a proponent of the constitutional reform process that aims to reverse neoliberalism in Chile. So the transit capitalists correctly perceived their interest and acted on it. Also they may have been colluding with the outgoing government!

Neoliberalism in Chile has led to the partial privatization of transit. On election day, private bus companies companies staged a boycott, refusing to transport working-class voters to the polls in an effort to hurt the socialist candidate. Story here:

On election day in Chile, private bus companies refused to transport working-class voters to polls to help the right-wing candidate. The Left and unions organized to counteract the boycott — and socialist candidate Gabriel Boric emerged victorious.

During Chile’s recent election, private bus companies cut service to working-class neighborhoods to try to stop left-wing voters from reaching the polls. But supporters of leftist candidate Gabriel Boric mobilized against the boycott and won anyway.

There are many rich people who hate teachers unions in general & the Chicago Teachers Union under the leadership of the Caucus and Rank-and-File Educators (which has led the union out on strike multiple times since 2010) in particular. Reasonable to wonder if they're chipping in
