Decisions made in the public interest by. @AER_news hearing commissioners are extremely rare as are AER participatory hearings. Most decisions made by administrators. This one made by commissioners will not be reviewed by Justices of Appeal. Great news!

Doesn’t this apply to all oil & gas or other energy regulators including @AER_news ? What say you @sonyasavage and @JasonNixonAB ? What say you @JonathanWNV ? Time to regulate in the public/landowner interest not just the interests of powerful lobbies like @OilGasCanada .

Regulators of oil & gas activities must “shift” to protection of the public interest by properly balancing competing interests - the original intent of their creation by statute. The nature of shift req. is different in each jurisdiction. Summary of a thoughtful TX proposal:

Just under 3 months later the Americans (and Brits) dropped bombs on us in Libya. Wasn’t much fun.

Was home on field break from job in Libya. Had a haircut appointment just up the road and was killing time beforehand watching TV. Saw it live. Told the hairdresser and those in her shop. Everyone shocked -awareness was high b/c of first teacher in space.

To Varcoe and others focused on oil prices: Guys, orphans are primarily caused by insolvency of the licence/permit holder. If a well is not producing the price of a non-existent barrel is irrelevant. Who ensures the unsupervised wells of broke, shut down companies are safe?

Just once I’d like to read a column with law background research. When it’s crystal clear that either the licensee pays to retire his own wells, or industry pays via an Orphan Fund levy, just WHY IN HELL is even $1 of federal or provincial tax involved?

With the incredible songs of @kdlang , @jannarden and other AB artists, if we don’t change our ways our Alberta legacy will be disease, industry trespass, land, air and water contamination. Only Four Strong Winds has the mournful tone capable of conveying this truth.

In my family it’s traditional to change the words of a well known song or to write one for memorable events: “No strong wind to vent my gas in, no more oil left in the ground”. It’s a sad song about irresponsible oil destroying the health, lives, and land of Albertans.

“I’ll look for you if I’m ever back this way”. It’s the haunting last chorus line in the bronze-winning song, Four String Winds, written by Ian Tyson. Fun voting overseen by Senator @Paulatics . In my version the line is “Those old farmers won’t find out till it’s too late”.
