Newsrooms across America are desperately striving to create Pulitzer-worthy content when their newsrooms looks nothing like this group of Pulitzer-winning journalists 🙃
With so many visits and standing in front of media, I don't get how you call the *East Side* "East Buffalo." Talk about a disconnect.
I'm *not* from Buffalo and know the East Side is the East Side..🤷🏽♀️
Seeing a ton of Mumbo Wings stories from Buffalo reporters this year…. I wonder who may have helped pave the way for that….. I think it rhymes with Wadison Warter

All this to say:
We need better journalism but to do that we have to take care of the journalists.
The national investigative team I currently lead (
@atticusdocs
) is breaking the mold when it comes to how a job in this business should be (ask me how) and *we’re expanding*!
I came across something I said in profile a while back and it made me think a lot about what fights in my past were worth it.
Reading it back now… LOL (iykyk)
But I stand by it: if it means someone is hired behind me that doesn’t have to fight those fights? — ✌🏽
So, it’s not just about hiring more diverse staff.
Pay them, too.
I often take less than what I deserve but no one who comes after me ever does.
That’s on my name.
Every Tuesday and Thursday I used to go demand a raise at my last job.
The Black woman hired to replace me got 25k more than I was making.
The Black woman I trained out of college got promoted to weekend anchor & is making 14k more than I did when I left as a M-F anchor.
On my way out of my first job I gave my boss a list of the 22 white people hired after me and told him it was unacceptable.
A year later, that newsroom was 77% Black.
Every job I’ve had in the business (this is my fourth) I’ve come in as the only Black woman on the team.
But I’ve never left that way.
In one year my team has gone from being exclusively white — to me being one of *four* POC.
It speaks to
@TEGNA
’s commitment to diversity.
