Like so many folks who felt the Atlanta spa shootings hit close to home, I couldn’t let it go. I didn’t want people to easily forget. So, I went back. For the past few months, Hyun Jung Grant's sons let me into their lives. My last story for NYT:

the week I started my new job, I found out my dad was sick. i don't think I could've managed if this support group didn't exist. just knowing/relating to/leaning on other AAPI journalists going through the same thing has made such a difference. if you can relate, join on Wed!!

It’s surreal to be on the front page of The New York Times with a dateline from Beaumont, Texas, my hometown. And not just that: The story is from the scruffy, working-class neighborhood that was home to four generations of Rojases.

As a 20-something, adopted Asian American guy in LA, I had a lot of questions about identity I didn't even know I had. Still do. @frankshyong took me to see @jaycaspiankang on a panel. Jay took us out to lunch. Years later, I'm indebted to both of them, and eager to read this.

In the column this week I interview @jaycaspiankang about his new book, "The Loneliest Americans." We talk about the rooftop of California Market, Asian American political identity and his mom's writing.

Sandtown-Winchester is a majority Black neighborhood in Baltimore that Freddie Gray called home. Six years after his death, residents reflected on his life. (A story for the New York Times Student Journalism Institute.) #NYTSJI21
