#PuertoRico #Fiona

“They took the trucks out and 15 minutes later, they had the protesters locked up in a perimeter. I asked why and they didn't want to let me pass, I told the Sergeant that I had to get out and when I passed he pushed me. I simply defended my right to move from the place.” 5/5

“With their guards at $200 an hour plus expenses paid in hotels, they are billing millions. That's why we don't have light. They say that there is 80% energized (Metro area) the press stops asking and they charge without doing anything until they decide to energize.” 4/5

“We were there, at the Yauco Technique to make sure they went out to do their work and to make sure they weren't out for a walk all day. We arrived at 9am and they hadn't checked out. These people, for the most part, are wandering around all day without resolving nothing.” 3/5

“LUMA doesn’t have the staff. They have foreign subcontracted firms that don't know what to do. After the MOU is signed, LUMA calls at night to say that they signed it without reading it and that it was without effect…”

District 23 Representative of #PuertoRico : “Today we went to the LUMA technician in Yauco to ask for explanations as to why they signed an MOU with the Municipalities that they could clean the lines and the work area and they do not want to execute it.”

Five years after Category 5 Hurricane María, Puerto Rico still wasn’t ready for the Category 1 Fiona. Why can’t federal and local governments be trusted to lead recovery? @IsraelAyala144 explains the bureaucratic mess, with photos by Mariela Alvarez Xiloj.

We’re approaching 2 weeks since Hurricane Fiona came to Puerto Rico. More than 250k are still without electricity, according to Luma. The south & west regions won’t get full power restored until the end of next week. We hear accounts every day of how hard life is w/o the basics.
