Since the 2004 election, there have been seven premiers of Alberta. Only Rachel Notley served an entire elected term.

BREAKING: Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced he'll be stepping down as leader of the United Conservative Party after narrowly surviving a leadership review. "It clearly is not adequate support to continue on as leader."

Moving from left to right: This week, we’re talking about Saskatchewan’s political transformation and the lessons Alberta can learn from its neighbour. #ableg #cdnpoli

My latest little scoop: An Alberta geneticist is suing the province's health authority, alleging she was fired in retaliation for blowing the whistle about bullying in her lab. #ableg

We’d heard a couple weeks ago that Alberta Premier Jason Kenney was expected to testify before the US Senate about Canadian oil. Looks like Canada Day for the US Senate energy committee is next week — May 17.

@markusoff The 5 ridings with the most UCP members are repped by Joseph Schow, Jason Nixon, Brian Jean, Devin Dreeshen and Nathan Cooper -- and combine for more than 9,100 members of the 59,400 total. The top 12 ridings for memberships are all outside main cities. Kenney's riding has 472.

The opinion from the court of appeal has no legal teeth and currently changes nothing about the application of the federal legislation. The court did not make a ruling or judgement, they were asked for a legal analysis and opinion based on two specific questions from the province

Alberta Environment Minister @JasonNixonAB says that, "as of today," the Impact Assessment Act cannot be used in his province. The Alberta government appears to be under the mistaken impression that the court's opinion today is binding and takes effect immediately #abpoli

Premier Kenney has been visibly pleased during this news conference where he's also addressing the C-69 court of appeal opinion: "I'm a glass half full kind of guy and today my cup overfloweth," he says as the room chuckles.

TLDR: The majority says it disregards prov. jurisdiction, grants a veto to the feds + risks stranding prov. economies. Dissenting justice says the effects of climate change are in fed. jurisdiction, C-69 is an evolution of existing laws and the enviro is a shared responsibility

I spent the morning reading the C-69 opinion and a couple themes stick out: -There is a LOT of political language -The wording is quite strong from both sides of the 4-1 split -They're all concerned about the environ., but a lot of time is spent on WHO has jurisdiction over it
