It’s been 3 years since David and his son, Adelso, were separated under the Trump admin’s family separation policy. They haven’t seen each other since. They’re 1 of more than 1,100 families waiting to see if the Biden admin will reunify them. Our story: https://t.co/epFQpGCL73

“I have never seen the police engage in this level of sustained brutality across Colombia.” At least 41 civilians killed amid a violent police crackdown on unrest in Colombia. Important work by @julieturkewitz @sofiavillamil4 https://t.co/wc3IjZfVE7

Hola #Colombia.

NEW: She traveled 2,500 miles over land to reunite with her mother after seven years apart. Melissa is among thousands of unaccompanied minors crossing the border. https://t.co/EqgOA8lzTa

Three years on, a look at the effects of child separation under Trump-Kelly-Miller's zero tolerance policy at US borders. And the hope of reunification, whatever the risk. Strong work by @docubrent @rarecanary @sameenamin https://t.co/zZDRJquj1i

The subway line in Mexico City had been plagued with weaknesses that engineers said could lead to an accident. The warnings went largely unheeded for years — then on Monday, an overpass collapsed, the subway plunged 50 feet and at least 24 people died. https://t.co/LKHUlysHi3

The distance and the uncertainty of a reunion prevent adults and children from rebuilding lives broken apart when they were separated at the U.S. border, experts say. https://t.co/coOjnqyoy3

Still, the delay in reuniting families has encouraged some people to make a desperate trek back to the U.S. In the Guatemalan town where I met David, I found 3 other parents forcibly separated from their kids under ‘zero tolerance.’ 2 had already returned, and 1 was ready to go. https://t.co/NKXzVLSjyN

On May 3, DHS announced the first of many planned reunifications - bringing 4 mothers to the U.S. to reunite with their children. The U.S. will reunify another 35 or so families in the coming weeks as part of a trial run — which Adelso and David might be part of.

The son, now 15 years old, has recurring nightmares since separation about his father being kidnapped and killed. His father was sent back to the place in Guatemala they fled. https://t.co/QOfIauFpU7

For the father, the words still echo in his ears, “This president doesn’t want you here any more.” And, “Say goodbye to your son because you’ll never see him again.” https://t.co/LHwwxN2r5t

Chuck Strum did not trumpet his greatness, but let it sneak up on you. His superhuman ability to listen and hear what your story would say before you understood it yourself. His irascibility—much of it for show—shielding an enormous heart. Gone, damn it. https://t.co/qBQdlEyg3N

The Brazilian Senate is scheduled to vote on a bill that would give amnesty to land grabbers tomorrow, before holding hearings about it. This could open up a swath of the Amazon the size of France to land speculation. https://t.co/0BGkV0Ollr

1. ICE detention is one of the most dangerous places for Covid-19. To understand the risks, @ekrhyne and I talked to detainees, researchers, local officials and found a pattern of neglect & secrecy that fueled outbreaks in and out of detention. @nytvideo: https://t.co/OKtDkvPraD

Astonishing and worrisome stat, given the current trend: "A single bitcoin transaction uses the same amount of power that the average American household consumes in a month," https://t.co/d3m48aXTB0 via @NewYorker
