Happy Mon! ☀️ Thanks for the lovely messages- much appreciated. Time to now focus on broader issues in global public health & well-being esp those affecting low and middle income countries & impacting those that have the least in all societies 🌍.
We’re absolutely delighted to share that

No- don’t think any govt is pursuing ‘herd immunity’ now. Of course it’s better no one gets COVID- it’s an awful disease. But how does one avoid omicron while also earning a living, wanting to be part of society and mix with others? That’s the challenge.
Why ‘shielding the elderly & vulnerable’ alone & letting the ‘young and healthy’ just get covid was a terrible idea -> everyone should have had the chance to be vaccinated & protected prior to infection.
“Covid-19 was the leading medical cause of death among all US residents under age 55 during 2021.”
Since the start of the pandemic there has been a 30% increase in all-cause mortality among US adults ages 18-49, and a 26% increase among adults ages 50-64.
Prof Devi Sridhar's book 'Preventable' is the Radio 4 Book of the Week. And we are very excited that she will be at our festival's Opening Night on Friday 20th May! Get your tickets while you can!

👇🏼 Incredibly effective antivirals but still need to get rapid testing & adequate pill supply into pharmacies across the world. As well as awareness to seek testing & medication early on.
Studies show Paxlovid may be nearly 90% effective at reducing the risk of serious illness or death from Covid. But the sooner you get it, the better it's going to work. Everyone over age 65 or with an underlying condition should take it as soon as they know they have Covid.
Gone into print in August 2021, the book is a reminder of harrowing images (and for many very real personal experiences and losses). I sadly think many of these have already been forgotten, just a few months later.
A good reminder that at
@UKHSA
we’re often rolling from one incident to the next, but at times like this, many of us are working on Covid, paediatric hepatitis, and now monkeypox, all at the same time.
