anyway, automakers are using the transition to electric vehicles as an opportunity to weaken union standards (& has been for a decade), & the UAW does not appear to be ready (to put it generously) to organize against it
Isnt this exactly how they initially sold tier 2 to UAW autoworkers back in 2007? That it would only be the workers that don't touch the cars that would be tier 2? Soon after, all new hires were tier 2 whether they worked on the line or not.
Yes and we were promised after the contract expired, any tier 2 workers over the 20% threshold would automatically be rolled over to tier 1. When the contract was up and 60% of my plant was 2nd tier the uaw said “huh?” We don’t remember saying that.
