If you can’t see the difference between comparing non-Asian people to an unrelated phenomenon with which they have no historically racist association and punching down on Asians who experienced rising hate crime from being associated with that event then idk what to tell you
If you’re Asian, any kind of representation matters. The last five years has shown has that. We have so little, but BTS makes me feel seen.
Making jokes comparing them to A virus really pushes the progress we’re making back.
If you can’t be funny without being racist, disrespectful & nasty, then maybe it’s time for a new job
. Take accountability for your actions & own up to how you contribute to hostile environments.
We’re all saying the same things. But BTS don’t deserve this kind of racist, demeaning vitriol. Nobody does. We’ve seen a devastating rise in anti Asian hate & crimes since 2020 & these kinds of comments only contribute to the problem. We have to keep these ppl accountable.
It’s infuriating to think about how often we’ve raised the alarm about these kinds of instances & it just seems to be going over people’s heads—especially privileged white male “comedians” who think to be funny=to be insulting. It’s awful to see them constantly get away with it.
Kimmel’s comments leave little to assume — it’s very clear what he’s trying to say about BTS & it’s exhaustingly disgusting & unacceptable. We’re entering year 3 of the pandemic & still seeing racist shit related to covid, jibes being made at BTS, constantly undermining them.
A mistake repeated more than once is a decision. This “decision” you tried so hard to present as “humor” isn’t funny at all, but rather shameful. It’s insensitive and reflects the thoughtlessness and racist in you and the writers. This isn’t comedy. It’s hate.
