The voice of family medicine, the specialty that provides most medical care inside #LTC facilities, has not been at the forefront of conversations about #COVID19 in continuing care & it should be, reflects @allan_k_grillMD

Canada has: 1. A growing # of Omicron cases 2. Solid vaccine supply 3. Ability to mass immunize In the context of all of the emerging Omicron data to date, it's clear that we should get ahead of this variant with a 3rd dose strategy for 18+ now.

Want to keep the economy growing? Want to keep kids in school? Want to make sure health care is there when you need it? Get vaccinated. Get boosted. Support mandates. Encourage others to do the same.

This should light a fire under every province to blitz 3rd dosing to everyone. (Some of us have been calling for this for other reasons, but we have 1 more reason not to delay.)

Very important data, Sandra! Now we have three groups finding ca. 40-fold loss of serum neutralisation activity in fully immunized people, using slightly different virus and cell setups. Good convergence of results. Does not look good for twice vaccinated. Third dose necessary.

Yeah, it’s time for a significant escalation in urgency on boosters, now.

Key points from latest Omicron immune escape study: • The % figures *do not equate to vaccine efficacy* • Two doses clearly insufficient vs Omicron. Third doses absolutely essential • 3x Pfizer looks similar to 2x Pfizer + infection • No data on severe disease

R/T @bruce_arthur:”the vast majority of people in ICU with COVID are unvaccinated…2.9 fully vaccinated Ontarians per million…versus 85.9 unvaccinated…If everybody who is eligible were vaccinated, this pandemic wouldn’t be much of a pandemic.” @afhto

Cases are rising, Omicron is in the air. Please get the vaccine you are eligible for 💉 3rd doses are increasingly important—they further reduce the risk of getting sick with COVID-19 by ~80-90% compared to 2 doses alone Here's who is eligible for a 3rd dose in Ontario NOW👇🏽

NACI is recommending boosters for anyone ≥50, and for adults 18-49 "with consideration of jurisdictional and individual risks." Since the considerations could apply to any Canadian, there is now a seemingly loose recommendation for boosting all adults ≥6 months from 2nd doses.
