I should say again to take this with a grain of salt, as the upper and lower bounds modelled here are quite far apart. But I also don't want people to say they had no idea this was coming if things do trend towards the higher end. We'll get a better idea in the coming days.
Far too early to be sure, with plenty of uncertainty in the forecast, but the BC River Forecast Centre is showing the possibility of the Squamish River exceeding 2003 flood discharge next week. Still a ways out so we'll have to wait & see #BCStorm#squamish#brackendale 🤞
This footage out of Merritt is heartbreaking.
The entire City of #Merritt is now under an evacuation order due to surging floodwaters from the Coldwater River.
The city’s mayor is urging residents to stay calm.
BC River Forecast Centre is forecasting the Coldwater River at Merritt will blow away both the previous 1980 highest recorded discharge (141.3 m3/s) and the 100-year return interval (143.1 m3/s). Forecast peak flow will occur today, possibly over 200 m3/s #BCStorm#flood
Exorbitant prices just to get a drink is simply inhumane. Water is a right. I've seen $5-$10 for a bottle of water and fountains turned off. People just get more drunk/dehydrated because they decide ten bucks for a beer is a better deal than for a water.
