Just one day into farm workers’ march for Gov. @GavinNewsom’s signature, he has vetoed #AB616. Workers are now marching towards the French Laundry, hoping to finally meet with the Governor.

This veto from Gov. Newsom is beyond disappointing. We're in strong solidarity with the farm workers marching today. #1u #AB616

On Saturday, we’ll have support as we march the five miles to Newsom’s PlumpJack Winery in Napa. We see a double standard in vetoing a bill make it easier for us to vote in union elections by mail or from home, choices CA voters use to vote in elections like last week’s recall.

Gov @GavinNewsom vetoed #AB616, a bill to give us more choices to vote in union elections. We’d like to finally meet with him— we’ll be at The French Laundry soon. Supporters will join us Saturday- if he’s not there, we’ll march to his Plump Jack winery.

Gov @GavinNewsom vetoed #AB616, a bill that would have given us more options when voting in union elections. We’d like to finally meet with him. We will be outside The French Laundry today at 1pm. You can also join us there Saturday, then we’ll march to his winery. Details soon.

We will try again to meet with Gov. @GavinNewsom. We will explain why this bill is as important to us as the Voting Choice Act was to the governor. #WeFeedYou

Farm workers have been asking for a meeting with @CAgovernor since early June to discuss #AB616, without success. AB616 would have allowed farm workers to form a union by casting a secret ballot in many of the same ways CA voters did in the recall. 2/

Each step on this ladder is a foot high. That puts Angelica and Freddy up to 9 feet off the ground as they race to fill their 30-40lb bags of apples. They earn a piece rate averaging about $25 per 900 pound bin. #WeFeedYou

I’m truly devastated that @GavinNewsom vetoed the most important union organizing bill of the year. Denying Farmworkers the right to organize and join a union in the same manner we allow all public sector workers in CA to do so is abhorrent. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month. 👀

We deeply appreciate the outpouring of loving solidarity and support farm workers have had today from our friends and allies. Stay tuned on how you can join us and support CA farm workers in the days ahead. #AB616

Today, just hours after we began marching for his signature on #AB616, @GavinNewsom vetoed a bill that would have allowed farm workers to vote by mail in union elections. Tomorrow, we’ll still march— but our destination has been updated.

Infuriating. AB 616 would’ve brought the same freedom of voting access Californian voters enjoy to farm workers voting for unionization.

Today in 1965, a movement started that would result in the formation of the United Farm Workers — changing the labor movement in California and across the nation. The Delano Grape Strike reminds us of the power we hold when we come together to fight for what's right.
