@ThePlumLineGS Yes. But I think it's time to just accept that the GOP believes misery is good: for the economy and their political interests Whenever their is an economic problem, their first idea is to increase the misery of workers. And angry people vote Republican

New study finds BBB would mean thousands of $$$ in health care benefits for poor families in red states that haven't expanded Medicaid. It also finds the CTC would deliver disproportionate help in many red states. Every Republican will vote against this:

"We take for granted a conservative ideology rooted...in the politics of culture wars that hold abortion rights as an abomination but gun rights as inviolable." Scalding @EJDionne on SCOTUS, via @PostOpinions. And stay for this @ChrisMurphyCT quote:

Our new study shows Build Back Better helps working and middle class folks in red states. No wonder Republicans unanimously oppose it writes @ThePlumLineGS #BuildBackBetterAct

What's galling is that these red states refused the Medicaid expansion in the first place -- and now GOP members of Congress in the same states will vote against fixing the humanitarian problem that this created for their own constituents:

“BBB would help Americans in every part of the country. Some of these benefits go disproportionately to red states. Which means at the end of the day, Republicans are voting against helping families in these states.” @econwonk, the analyst who did this study, to me:

By passing Build Back Better, Democrats “will be providing health coverage to poor people who overwhelmingly live in red states that have declined to provide that coverage themselves.” @larry_levitt, to me, in this piece:

.@ThePlumLineGS nails the GOP's latest hypocrisy: While threatening to shut down Washington on the grounds that Biden's vaccine mandate is tyranny, they're using state power "to bar private businesses from protecting workers and customers as they see fit."

"Nothing hamstrings the Democratic Party’s power to define itself and its mission as much as the right’s strategic racism. The GOP’s embrace decades ago of racial dog whistle politics has turned Democrats against each other." NEW PAPER. @protctdemocracy

Republicans are now threatening a government shutdown to block Biden's private sector vaccine mandate. It's the perfect move for a party whose main organizing principle on Covid is opposing just about any social action to slow the pandemic. My latest:

“When placed in the context of all the other GOP maneuvering on covid, it’s hard to discern a broader consistent organizing principle here other than opposition to pretty much any kind of collective action that might mitigate the pandemic.“

Respectfully, this fails to learn from what Biden did right in 2020. He found a better way on "defund" that worked. He showed himself a centrist in a more constructive way while avoiding the pitfall of only being defensive by taking on GOP radicalization:

Biden has always been a centrist. He needs to remind voters of that fact by attacking the excesses of both the Trumpian right and the ultra-progressive left. Triangulation worked for Clinton. It can work for Biden too. My latest in @PostOpinions.

Republicans are threatening a government shutdown to block vaccine mandates, which they call Big Government tyranny. Meanwhile, they're using government to bar *private* companies from doing their own mandates and to award UI benefits to antivaxxers:

Remains just so bonkers that GOPMAGAs oppose vaccine mandates, societal norms which have been around for decades and in common and every day use here in the US and everywhere else in the world.
