A video of last night's rockfall on the Stawamus Chief, seen from the Stawamus Chief Webcam. I think the flashes of light are sparks as the rocks collide on the way down. #Squamish #SquamishBC #StawamusChief #TheChief @squamishchief

@StawamusChief @Kamscan @squamishchief What a fascinating video this is. Thank you for re-tweeting it. When I was a kid, I used to hike up there never thinking it could slowly start tumbling down.

@StawamusChief @squamishchief We were in the hospital and the whole room shook for like 5 seconds after the massive thumping sound 😮

@StawamusChief @squamishchief My theory on the sparks is that it may be a piezo-electric effect from the stressing and distressing of massive numbers of rock crystals (quartz?). I used to work in underground mines. Large rockfalls (if you were brave enough to watch) would cause flashes of “lightning”.
