In 2003, @Schwarzenegger received more votes than “No” and 46.8% of total ballots, not 47% of those who answered Q2. Context for national reporters who might want to build a winning narrative for a candidate who got 25.9% of the total vote.

President @JoeBiden doubles down on Newsom's message that recall win validates COVID response Newsom has recently leaned into the pandemic, taking risks like he did in the early days that put him at the vanguard of his party - as I explained here:

Idaho has refused to embrace mask, vaccine and quarantine requirements that Washington State has implemented. But with Idaho hospitals overflowing with Covid patients, Washington State is having to take on the excess patients.

GOP in Penn subpoenas personal info of nearly 7 million voters in the state, saying it’s needed to ensure confidence in elections. Dem Gov Wolf calls it ‘another step to capitulate to Trump’s conspiracy theories about 2020.’

As California's attention turns to recalling the recall, historian @newton_jim thinks they should also reform the initiative. What began as a tool to blunt the power of the SP railroad has become a corporate weapon used by Uber/Lyft and others.

Gov. Gavin Newsom of California beat an attempted recall, but he now faces multiple challenges. “If crises are opportunities, then this is the greatest opportunity any sitting governor in America will ever have,” one professor said.

CA leads the nation with the lowest COVID case rate. Our students are back together in the classroom safely thanks to the progress we’ve made together. Great to be in Oakland today visiting students at Melrose Leadership Academy -- we even got to play a little basketball :)

By comparison, there were only 755K votes not cast on Q2 in 2003, or 8 percent.

The gap between "yes/no recall" (Q1) and "if yes, who?" (Q2) is ginormous. As of mid-afternoon... Total ballots reported: 9,176,526 Q1 total votes: 9,137,428 Q2 total votes: 5,057,345 Good politics for Newsom to ask voters to skip Q2? Maybe. Bad for the process? Probably.

For now, Los Angeles is the only large U.S. school district to mandate vaccines for students. New York City, the nation’s largest district, and Chicago, the third largest, are not mandating vaccines for students — at least not yet.

No matter your party or candidate preferences, this voter fraud stuff is crazy, irresponsible, and an affront to democracy. And being called a “guru” all the time is pretty funny. ;)

Such a great capstone to ⁦@ShawnHubler⁩’s amazing recall coverage. The problems facing California — fires, drought, little affordable housing — loom just as large the day after the vote.
