One Downing Street insider tells the FT there were often get togethers in the evenings in No 10 while the country was in lockdown last Christmas. “It was the only place you could get together and socialise. They happened most Fridays."

“They were the only things that kept us going, bearing in mind we were the only people in Whitehall in the office working throughout”, the insider says. “We weren’t seeing anyone else outside of work and were our own bubble.”

@Laura_K_Hughes What a load of BS. There were households all over the country arguably breaking the rules, and huge numbers in the public being fined for violation of the restrictions. Did you forget that?

@Laura_K_Hughes “It was the only place you could get together & socialise." Yes, we understand. There was indeed, nowhere outside Downing Street, apparently, where people could get together & socialise. The rest of the country was under Tier 3 & 4 restrictions. Pubs & restaurants were shut.🤬
