Working with Ressler gave Liz field experience, working with Liz gave Ressler profiling experience. That's why they were such a great fit.

Liz wasn't actually meant to be a field agent even though she was trained for it. She was a profiler. You can't expect her to be a door kicker like Ressler when she first joins the team. She was working in the mobile emergency psych unit when they grabbed her up.
