Why do we keep on demolishing heritage structures here and yet spend thousands to visit old cathedrals, homes and castles in Europe? We dip our feet in Korea's canals, but keep ours in a sorry state.

@KingUrieta @KenAbante Top of mind: little to no emotional connection to spaces and places. We don't write stories about them much, nor have they become part of day to day life. But there are some places that I think, people come to value because of stories about it - like Sagada for example.

@KingUrieta Because we are usually content in seeing them there until theyre gone. May sense of complacency and the usual passive “ang ganda” “sayang naman”. Pero only a few want to really immerse or defend heritage kasi tinatamad o takot sa forces that want to do away with them.

@KingUrieta Social climbing and yung thinking na pag local, inferior sa iba. Maybe Filipinos were taught to play small para di magbibo-bibo otherwise mawawalan ng pwersa yung matatalinong tuso na nagpapaikot sa'ting lahat.

@KingUrieta @tatancast Sadly, we dont give much value on restorations and preservations unlike other countries. Many of us also have the notion that , "new" is better than "old" and the more infrastructures the more progressive the country is. Which for me is a wrong mind set.

@KingUrieta It's more expensive to rehabilitate an old building than to build a new one. Lalo na we have no support from government. In Europe, heritage buildings are provided for or even maintained by the govt

@KingUrieta Agree. We keep building shiny new structures while neglecting ones that can be reused and enjoyed by the next generation. And these are beautiful structures sayang.
