It’s kind of weird to criticise an industry that made Fleabag, Downton Abbey and The Bodyguard for not making more things like Fleabag, Downton Abbey and The Bodyguard.

And to not mention I May Destroy You, Small Axe and many others in this speech is a tell that cannot be ignored or forgiven.

@KatyFBrand Whittingdale won't be happy til we're making shows like we had in the 60s and 70s.

@KatyFBrand I don't immediately hate the idea. I just hope it means we get more not-in-or-around-London based shows.

@KatyFBrand Weird, yes, but that appears to be the kind of argument this government applies in most cases. The UK government has embraced with apparent glee the role of abusive, controlling partner and all the gaslighting "logic" that goes with that. This new appointment is a clear example.

@KatyFBrand Trying to avoid the snark and thinking the best. Maybe they're protecting localisation in a global world. I don't want TV shows that are like all ads now... weirdly vague. Very weird when you write it down though. Very weird

@KatyFBrand tl;dr version: “You made some things that were very good. You should make more of those and less of the bad things. I am a minister and I am clever.”
