I met & worked w/ @JenniferKoh1 for the 1st time in June. Her commitment, integrity, & musicality were inspiring. Not surprisingly, her @nytimes piece is powerful, a must-read.

Killer detail in this piece by ⁦@JenniferKoh1⁩: when Joyce Hatto, a white pianist, released other pianists’ recordings as her own, she won praise from someone who had panned the same recording when it had been correctly attributed to Yuki Matsuzawa.

I can’t tell you how much I wish I had role models like @JenniferKoh1 when I was coming up as a young violinist in the 90s/00s. To have someone vocal, challenging the status quo… who looked like me? That would have been a game changer.

“Classical music is often called “universal,” but what does universality mean when the field was built for white men who still hold much of the power?” A really important and meaningful read. Thank you for your words @JenniferKoh1 👏🏼🧡

Yes, yes, yes ⁦@JenniferKoh1⁩…I ask myself this question almost every day: “Classical music is often called ‘universal,’ but what does universality mean when the field was built for white men who still hold much of the power?” via ⁦@nytimes

From @HernandezJavier: “The success of some artists of Asian descent obscures the fact that many face routine racism and discrimination.”

On your doorsteps this weekend: While artists of Asian descent may be represented in classical music, many say they do not feel seen.

And from @JenniferKoh1: “It is highly misleading that Asian Americans are overrepresented in what remains an overwhelmingly white and male field.”

There’s a long way to go until November of next year. Maybe you’ll be the nominee. Maybe we’ll get to debate. Let’s focus on what matters. This is a job about service, it’s a job about community, and it’s a job that requires empathy. Let’s act accordingly. (END)

You mention that this is a district that Trump won, and you’re right. But the Rep here should respect and serve everyone in the district regardless of who they voted for. If you’re running to sow division, maybe you should reconsider. That’s not what this job is about. 11/12

Tricia @newdayfornj, I am writing to press you to stop saying “He is not one of us” in campaign attack ads against me. I’ve heard these hurtful words many times as an Asian American and your use in a campaign for Congress disrespects me and many AAPIs. You and I haven’t…THREAD
