NEW: My Dad was the fourth resident of his nursing home ( @HudsonPointe_HC ) to get #coronavirus . No one told me about the first and a NY State Dept of Health policy did not require notification. That policy changed on April 4, five days before my dad died.

“Starting Monday, we will postpone 2,200 [surgeries] a week to make the best possible use of the staff we have,” Mass General Brigham’s COO said. This is ~40% of system's total surgical procedures. Hospitals are considering size and growth rate of tumors.

On A1 of today’s @nytimes a look at @NYCMayor ’s relationship with the city’s jail unions + a series of pro labor decisions that signal a return to prominence for unions that had been put on the defensive in the final months of the previous administration:

In a phone interview two days after she was fired, the Department of Correction’s top investigator said, “I don’t believe the unions should be running agencies. This makes me believe this is the first of many deals that might be happening, and that’s not effective leadership.”

The NYC jails commissioner fired his chief investigator on his 1st Monday on the job after asking her if the she could “get rid of” 2,000 cases in 100 days. She believes she was fired at the behest of the unions. And it was not their only ask: My story:
