Great news from Ireland! Legislation will allow Ireland to ratify the UN Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture ( #OPCAT ). The ratification of OPCAT will strengthen Ireland’s commitment to upholding human rights and #tortureprevention .

A well-deserved win for @mhdelaney + @michellehtweet who gave a voice to the Traveller Community throughout this series of reports. 🥳 You might spot a familiar organisation quoted in the winning article... 👀 🔗 #JMA22 @NTWFIRL @SSGTIrl @PaveePoint

Data on the overrepresentation of Travellers in prison in the @ITAJinUL report aligns closely with our previous research in this area (2014 + 2022). Thanks to the research team for featuring IPRT’s work in this vital research. 🤝 Report available NOW: @UL

Despite negative narratives about Travellers in the criminal justice system, @ITAJinUL research finds: ▪️ Half of Travellers in the study were victims of crime in the previous 5 years ▪️ Only one-fifth had been arrested in that time period ✍️ @noelbaker1

IPRT Exec Director @saoirse_b speaking about the core findings of our 2020 'Making Rights Real Report' and its recommendations. 🗣️ The lack of data on the prevalence of disability in prison limits our ability to consider intersectional discrimination. 🔢
