We have come so far since I was a brand-new Member of Congress and the youngest Black woman ever elected. When I assumed the role, I knew Congress needed to do more to save moms’ lives. Enacting the Protecting Moms Who Served Act was the first step to making that happen.
As a mom, I worried how I would put food on the table, pay for my mortgage and take care of my kids. As someone who has a clearance, this potentially placed my clearance & job in jeopardy. I couldn't agree more Senator, we should not play politics with people's lives! #shutdown
Thank you Sen. Warner for being a fighter for Virginians!
Speaking from personal experience, I've been impacted by a government shutdown. I have to tell you that It was scary & devastating to me personally & financially. Not to mention the stress and worry you feel.
Another American tragedy.
The pain the families, school employees, the students and community feel after the school shooting in Michigan, is just heartbreaking.
My thoughts and prayers are with Oxford High School.
Rikelman: "There is no less need today ... for women to be able to make this fundamental decision for themselves about their bodies, their lives, and their health."
Bottom line: This is a fundamental right for women!
Rikelman, in response to questions from Alito: “Allowing a state to take control of a woman’s body" and force her to bear the burdens of pregnancy "is a fundamental violation of her liberty.” #DobbsvJackson
What Kavanaugh is tacitly alluding to here is the argument by some abortion opponents that fetal life is protected under the 14th Amendment -- a view that, if adopted, would essentially make abortion unconstitutional. Kavanaugh suggests he is not receptive to that view.
