During Jan. 1917, the “1st Exhibition of National Park Paintings” was held at the Nat. Gallery of Art. 16 of the 45 paintings exhibited were of Grand Canyon —in an effort to promote its upgrade from a national monument to a national park. This painting is by Howard R. Butler.

A dusting of snow this evening, with clouds forming inside the canyon. Friday, January 21, 2022. Colder temperatures, shorter days, and snow bring a slower pace. During January and February, winter visitors find paths less traveled throughout the park.
