Phasing out fossil fuels subsidies, particularly for #coal, is essential to prevent the worst of global heating. But a @BloombergNEF report finds that all 19 individual country members of the #G20 continue to provide major support for fossil fuels

While we were still in the White House, I began sharing my summer favorites—and now, it’s become a little tradition that I look forward to sharing with you all. So here's this year's offering. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

Creatures of the deep sea have been putting on the world’s greatest light show for tens of millions of years, @ElizKolbert writes. One marine biologist thinks that if people could witness it, they’d pay more attention to the many hazards threatening them.

Outstanding article via @ElizKolbert @NewYorker on the dangers #seabedmining pose to our #oceans #deepsea ecosystems. “Even if we found unicorns living on the seafloor, I don’t think that would necessarily stop mining.” -@DanielOBJones

If you care about climate and clean energy in the infrastructure package, read this. Some of us have been warning about this plan for weeks. Now, GOP leadership is willing to say it out loud. It could work - but only if Dems give in to the GOP playbook.

The "despite the 2020 emissions dip, concentrations still went up" ledes garble the issue. The atmosphere is like a bathtub. As long as we're filling it faster than the planet pulls down CO2, concentrations will go up. Last year, we added 40 gigatons, instead of 43, to the tub.

Could there be a better metaphor for our time? "ConocoPhillips plans to install 'chillers' into the permafrost — which is fast melting because of climate change — to keep it solid enough to support the equipment to drill for oil."
