Seems like an odd time for the Government to put its new Vaccine Manufacturing Innovation Centre up for sale. “Things are tight and so they’re looking for a way to recoup some of the [£215m] cost.” 🤔🤔🤔

Everyone loves to call for funding for affordable homes, they are far less keen on them actually being built near them. And May's is one of the least affordable constituencies in the country, where they are most needed.

She is right, but it's a bit rich coming from someone who spends a great deal of time trying to prevent them being built near her.

JCVI proving again that it can move at pace when required - expected to announce new booster guidelines today, just 48hrs after being asked to review. Some may ask why the committee cannot always act with such urgency when a pandemic is ongoing (eg decision on kids' jabs).

@AntiokhosE @EggrollShogun While we are on the theme of Gothic Thai temples, I would be remiss to not mention Wat Rajabopit in Bangkok, home to the chief royal columbarium.

A totally unique sight in Wuhan - Gude Temple 古德寺, built in late Qing in inspired combination of gothic, classical and SE Asian (mostly Burmese) styles. Turned into a camera factory after the revolution, it’s now been restored to its former glory with healthy cohort of monks.

The japanese built an artifical island, knowing these are the natural habitat of the dutch. Soon afterwards, a flock of dutch merchants settled there, allowing the japanese to easily harvest western goods

For example, there's really nothing in this article suggesting African nations 'face blame'. It says that people *feel* as if they're being blamed, but frankly that is clearly not the same thing.

As with 'vaccine equity', shoehorned no matter the actual problem in SA, we have an expert class with unspoken but obvious politics obviously letting those politics motivate reasoning. Why are flight bans wronger than restricting freedom of your citizenry in day to day life?

Borders don't work *forever* but (to cite an example I know best) Japan's first real outbreak of Alpha (which later died off) was months after Kent. Buying time *is* useful, even if the interconnectedness of countries in places like Europe mean it can't work as well

This is untrue about variants and borders of course, but how are 'restrictions' not ''reactionary'' (whatever is meant by the use of that word?)

Travel bans have never yet kept a variant out - yet are extremely damaging & may discourage countries from sharing data & cases. In the past, they've also lingered long past their usefulness. We must be strategic about what works (test, trace, restrictions, vax), not reactionary.
