Getting out of Afghanistan was great, but between rhetoric about a global struggle against autocracy, Ukraine, ratcheting up tension with China with "gaffes," Yemen, Somalia, and staying in Syria and Iraq, it seems fair to say any Biden honeymoon with restraint ended badly.

so your position is to give ukraine enough weapons to soundly defeat russia and do it fast so the war stops asap and that's exactly what the biden admin is doing? that's quite the wager with all of our lives, but ukrainian lives first and foremost. what happens if you lose?

I can’t think of any policy more immoral than giving Ukrainians enough weapons not to win but also not to lose, a strategy that would just prolong the war and lead to Ukrainians (and Russians) needlessly dying. Thankfully, that’s not the Biden policy.

This tweet says almost everything about the pathologies of American government in the 21st Century. The only thing missing is the insistence on doing this rather than simply lifting trade restrictions on European or Canadian formula.

The New York Times’s publication of “The Ransom” is a groundbreaking report laying out history’s role in Haiti’s poverty. Here are some of the latest reactions and updates from the project.

here mcfaul invokes one of the craziest, scariest hypotheticals i've heard in order to shield the west from any responsibility of past deeds. my only retort would be "well if you can imagine that, imagining inclusive security architecture, lisbon to vladivostok, should be easy!"

a couple of interesting bits from the debate. here, sikorski admits that nuclear escalation is indeed possible in the current standoff w/ russia. but he's okay with it. idk how religious radoslaw is, but it feels like this may be his "final battle."

munk debates @munkdebate held an event recently more or less on the motion that "in order to end the russia-ukr/west conflict russia's sec interests must be acknowledged." realism v fantasy walt and mearsheimer v mcfaul and sikorski ideology trumped realism once more.

honestly im conflicted on this one. we already live with a risk of a nuclear conflict over ukraine every day and impending economic, biological and climate disasters. maybe some less "strategic ambiguity" is a good thing, even if it's belligerent?

Breaking news: President Biden said the U.S. would defend Taiwan militarily if China invaded, appearing to step away from a policy of “strategic ambiguity.”

4. One important means of doing so would be to have all the members commit to full financial transparency & the abolition of dark money. This should improve equality by having current offshore funds taxed & legally regulated. Criminal funds would be revealed.

@chenweihua There was relentless 🇺🇸🇪🇺 diplomacy trying to stop this insane war. But Putin was encouraged by 🇨🇳 de facto supporting his aggression. And aggression is the supreme crime under international law. Relations 🇪🇺🇨🇳 will unavoidable suffer from this 🇨🇳 choice.
