Been thinking about this a lot in terms of pre-K-12 education: what does it mean to be an anti-fascist teacher? And are enough of us thinking about ourselves explicitly in those terms?

My 10yo has been practicing Korean on Duolingo all weekend and I didn’t know why. Today I found out it’s because there’s a new kid in her class who only speaks Korean and she wants to make him feel at home. 🥺

I never really thought about how damaging the teachers are superheroes narrative can be. Teachers are AMAZING. But they are humans who need to be encouraged in words and actions to take care of their personal well-being and set boundaries.

@ChristieNold Kinda like equity/restorative justice/listening to BW. Sounds cool in the moment, but folks know they won't be expected to do any work. 🤣🤣🤣

It’s the year 2078. I am a spirit ancestor. The sidewalks crack with wild tobacco and the wind rushes prayers to silent stars. Colonialism is over. The dark earth sighs with relief. And beauty is no longer a dream.

... it seems (in some spaces I've been) to be static. As though it's an unchanged/unchallenged fact. This "was" and "here we are now." Appreciate those who have been challenging this practice & encouraging a more dynamic view.

Wondering out loud: how much of the popularity of land acknowledgements (as a checkbox rather than more intentional practice) is rooted in the "past tense" nature of the acknowledgement. Rather than center the continued story of indigenous peoples relationship to land...

Revisiting this 💭 “Land acknowledgments are a moment to pause & reflect on the relationship that exists between the current residents and those who were displaced. What does it mean live on stolen land? … dispossession… it is a relationship that you have inherited.” @gindaanis

🧵 Seldom-quoted #MLK : “Our nation was born in genocide when it embraced the doctrine that the original American, the Indian, was an inferior race. Even before there were large numbers of Negroes on our shore, the scar of racial hatred had already disfigured colonial society…

When we use the term white supremacy, it doesn't just evoke white people. It evokes a political world that we all can frame ourselves in relationship to. —bell hooks
