Whenever I die, please don't allow my image to be co-opted by the power establishment. Don't let my name & likeness be used to argue for peace in the absence of justice. I believe uncompromisingly in the liberation of the black, poor and oppressed from systems of white supremacy
They think their ability to argue from any stance, regardless of how asinine or unfounded, is a mark of intellectual superiority. The minute they are challenged on their biases & bigotry, their inner klansman comes jumping out & they say/do overtly racist things.
They think that questioning the existence of structural racism somehow makes them open-minded & more liberal, when they’re actually just ignorant. They consider themselves superior to white conservatives & evangelicals when they aren’t that different. https://t.co/Hzd63f57XQ
The presence of militarized police escalate every situation. Had Chicago Police not suddenly brought out police in riot gear while demonstrators were dispersing last night, I'm convinced the streets would have been clear three hours earlier.
Crowds spontaneously form all the time for different reasons. It’s only the protests against the violence of police that get an immediate, war-like response from the police & military
It’s not sufficient for public officials to give their thoughts & prayers statements about the specific incidents of people being killed by police. They need to address the violent political repression taking place every night as police respond to these protests.
The reality is that Chiago Police were waiting all night to unleash violence on people demanding justice for Adam Toledo and they weren't about to go home without it.
Last night's march for Adam Toledo ended peacefully in a park after hours of marching.
As the thousands of people were trying to leave (rideshares were over $100), Chicago Police needlessy lunged into the crowd & created chaos. CPD consistently refuses to let people disperse. https://t.co/72S3spS06v
After police created chaos by snatching two people, a lieutenant or sergeant tried to get the riot cops to fall back and many watched them refuse the order and arbitrarily hold a line in the middle of Logan Blvd. https://t.co/AUDxcgFATH
On this day in 1915, a 17-year-old Black boy named Caesar Sheffield was taken from jail and shot to death by a white mob near Lake Park, Georgia, after he allegedly stole meat from a smokehouse. To overcome racial inequality, we must confront our history. https://t.co/GDYXdw9tf6
That means more than 1 out of every 10 deaths from covid worldwide occurred in the US even though we are only ~4% of the world’s population & have the greatest GDP of any nation. https://t.co/wN5nLT7rFO
B*ll M*h*r is to the right of Pat Robertson in his view on the recent police killings if you need any more evidence that he’s the emblem of liberal white supremacy
Please stop saying “protests began peacefully.” The protests began because police murdered or otherwise brutalized someone. It’s not the protesters who determine whether there is peace or violence, it’s the police. The situation is already violent b/c of police.
I thought police reform was possible until I really looked at the data, history & structure. Thinking we can’t function if we abolish policing is like when ppl thought we couldn’t function if we abolished slavery b/c it was such an intrinsic part of the society. We did & we can.
There are reformists who truly mean well. But folks must be willing to examine what it means that decades of reform efforts have had no impact b/c racism is such an intrinsic part of how policing is organized that reforming it is like trying to turn a plane into a pear tree.
Chauvin & Potter were both training officers who committed murder—acts of murder that would probably be charged as 1st or 2nd degree murder if they were civilians doing what they did— So what does it mean to fund more training when the trainers & veteran cops are the problem?
