@Femi_Sorry If you are advocating for a pact, that's literally treating voters as tradeable and transferrable between the left of Tory parties, which is not the case.

Regular Reminder: The ideological differences between centrism & socialism are irrelevant under an FPTP system which will keep spitting out Tory PMs until everyone to the left of the Tories works together to remove them & deliver equal voting. But keep fighting. That'll help. 👍🏿

@Femi_Sorry Regular reminder: voters aren't trading cards and don't purely vote on left-right or "anybody but Tory" lines. Acting like they do and they will is asking to fail. Voters need a reason to lend their votes - ideally a reason that means they never need do so again - like PR.

@AshRouth I really hope you don't think anything you just said contradicts what I just said.

@Femi_Sorry You appear to be advocating for either an electoral pact, or all left of Tory parties adopting identical policy. The latter would be strange, so I assumed the former. Presumed you're moved by the recent claim that a ~150 seat pact can end the Tory majority

@AshRouth @Femi_Sorry A pact is so clearly the most sensible way forward. This should be obvious. It can be called a "pact" or whatever else people want to call it. But it needs to happen because first and foremost, the Tories have got to go.

@AshRouth @Femi_Sorry @Femi_Sorry keeps peddling this extremely simplistic and naïve view but @AshRouth is absolutely correct. The other parties have major disagreements with each other too - not just with the Tories.

@AshRouth @Femi_Sorry It has to be. The point is it would be temporary, to achieve PR. Can't you see the bigger picture here? We're doomed to FPTP and perpetual Tory governments, or ineffectual Labour ones, until you do.

@benmcfc @Femi_Sorry There are other ways, the idea that it's pact or Tories is a false dichotomy. That being said, there are other factors at stake - for example a pact that would bankrupt the Green party isn't one that I'd be interested in.

@AshRouth @Femi_Sorry I think it is simply acknowledging the reality of all democracies. In this case FPTP which is completely unsuitable to partisan politics where your MP is forced with threats to vote against your interests.

@AndyFla @Femi_Sorry And what if the price of the pact is the financial destruction of my preferred party? Gaining PR but losing the party that I'd rank #1 would be a pyrrhic victory.
