That’s not a USMNT-specific tweet btw. Upside for all is this was a supremely strange window with half-strength lineups and everyone petrified about getting hurt and missing out. But I will be very disappointed if fans don’t draw angry and overly broad conclusions anyway.

Counterpoint: It is never good to get punched in the face. Getting punched in the face is bad.

If your biggest takeaway from poor performances in the last window window before the World Cup is how it’s good to get punched in the face now instead of then, well, that’s some serious glass half-fulling.

Reminder from a long-ago Michael Bradley soliloquy on the uselessness of media player ratings: Only those inside the team know what the team has been asked to do in any match, particularly friendlies. But he also knew better than most that results don’t lie in the end.

His résumé reads like one that was reverse-engineered to get this job: grass roots background, tech past, marketing experience, supreme tolerance for parochial nonsense. (OK, I made up that last one.)

US Soccer names a new chief executive. He smartly waited until the equal fight was solved before signing on.

Roger Federer's farewell match was not really about the scoreline. It was about the bottom line: all he has brought to #tennis for a quarter century. Our latest, which will update

The scoreboard at the Laver Cup sometimes looks like the designer feel in love with numbers and lost track of the job they were asked to do:

If you're coming late to the Laver Cup tennis today, you've already missed the strangest moment: a protester lit himself on fire on the court during the day's second singles match.

An activist just set themselves on fire, protesting private jets at #lavercup . I wish there wasn’t any need to create awareness about #climatechange anymore. I hope they’re not hurt. The court seemed to be on fire at one point but is not damaged. The match has resumed.
