I’m a graduate in Medieval Studies, and when I try to explain some myths about it, people look at me as if I was insane. The Enlightenment propaganda is so strong, that telling the truth about Medieval era sounds like a crazy right-wing conspiracy theory.

It is hard to imagine a greater historical error than confusing medieval theocracy with totalitarianism.

Has anyone read Sir Anthony Kenny? I’m looking to buy (and hopefully read as soon as possible) his “A New History of Western Philosophy”, particularly “Medieval Philosophy”.

The manuscript of Bellifortis (1405) is possibly the first found text in Albanian. To be more precise this manuscript, written in Latin, contains a mysterious paragraph in Albanian.

Scruton on the Nation. “It is a given historical reality. It is made particular and immediate in language, custom, religion, and culture. It contains within itself the intimation of a legitimate order. This, I believe, should always be remembered”

“A dead thing can go with the stream, but only a living thing can go against it.” Reading @GKCdaily , the Apostle of [the] Common Sense, in these confusing times is always refreshing; simply sobering.

Burke was a political philosopher rather than an ideologue. The same can be said of conservatism; it is a philosophy rather than an ideology. Having said that, his views fall under various branches of conservatism, including the conservative liberal tradition.

Saying that Burke was ‘a liberal in comparison to DeMaistre’ makes no sense because they came from different backgrounds and defended different countries. He was, without a doubt, a conservative in Anglo-Saxon terms. After all, being a conservative does not require being a Tory.

Roman wealth was concentrated in the Eastern Empire, allowing it to better survive the shocks of Late Antiquity & thrive in the Byzantine Period.
