I look forward to learning more from school authorities about how they’ve supported our students’ recovery from pandemic-related learning loss as they wrap up their reporting on programming in the coming weeks. 2/2

Spreading this misinformation serves to undermine the important work happening in classrooms to support student success and it is irresponsible. Alberta Education made no recent announcement related to mandatory assessments for Gr. 1-3 students in the current school year. 1/2

On May 10, an e-mail was sent by @AlbertaEd to school authorities on wrapping up the optional 21/22 provincial literacy and numeracy screening assessments, part of a learning loss pilot announced in May 2021. 1/

The draft K-6 Science & 2 French subjects were updated with feedback from classroom piloting & engagements from March 2021 & March 2022. Content was also aligned with top-performing jurisdictions, within Canada & internationally, and those with knowledge-rich curriculums.

We will continue to take a balanced approach to K-6 curriculum renewal based on advice from the Curriculum Implementation Advisory Group. In spring 2023, feedback from piloting & Albertans will inform final updates to these 3 curriculums prior to implementation in Sept. 2023.

In 2022-23, #AB ’s government allocated $59 million for the K-6 piloting and implementation process. This includes $6.5 million to support piloting and give teachers release time to plan for piloting and participate in regular feedback sessions. #AbEd

By June 6, school authorities will identify their intent to participate and finalize decisions on participation in the fall. While piloting is underway, Albertans will also be able to provide feedback on the updated draft K-6 subjects.

We’re providing maximum flexibility in how school authorities participate in optional classroom piloting. For teachers, the piloting experience will include supports & professional learning opportunities, information and tools to work with new subjects and feedback collection.

We're building new recovery communities across Alberta to help more people recover from the of addiction by increasing access to treatment. The first of these communities is being built in Red Deer and is on schedule to open this fall.

This was also demonstrated through a recent pilot project conducted by @UAlbertaEd researchers and funded by @AlbertaEd . The results showed that 82% of students struggling to read saw significant improvements after small group intervention. 2/2
