Hurricane Fiona's approach to Canada is nothing short of historic. The rarity that these ingredients are coalescing over the Gulf Stream is almost unimaginable. The offshore maximum wave height could approach 30 metres (~100 feet). #atlstorm #HurricaneFiona

@BCWeather101 @ElijahBman @PA_Tropicswx @50ShadesofVan @LMainWx @JamesVanFleet @AceOxv @AndreaBuono6 @vlad_rad @jwhittalTWN @JustinMWeather Normally, tropical systems that move into the lower SSTs of the water S of NS would decay quickly, cut off from their source of energy. In this case though (similar to "The Perfect Storm") Fiona is going to interact with a sharp trough to the W and convert to a baroclinic system

We have made it. Quick turnaround getting to location flying in from Toronto, ON and Kelowna, BC after ending Hurricane Fiona coverage. Now we wait and document Ian from our position in Punta Gorda. #flwx @weathernetwork @DmjHodge @StormhunterTWN #HurricaneIan

Surge is coming in crazy fast in #Naples #FLwx . A rate of a little more than a foot per 10 minutes. Don't think this is over just because winds are lessening as the eye moves to your north! #Ian

The sun is rising on visible satellite and dangerous Category 4 #HurricaneIan . The latest update from NHC puts the centre of Ian 95 km (60 mi) west of Naples. Peak storm surge numbers increased to 12-18 ft (!) from Englewood to Bonita Beach, and Charlotte Harbour. #Ian

With sustained winds now at 250 km/hr, Hurricane #Ian is now a top end Category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. This is what residents in Florida who will be in its path are up against. The storm surge & rainfall produced by Ian will be destructive & life-threatening.

In 2020, TS Eta passed 70 miles west of Tampa with winds of 65-70 mph, bringing a storm surge of 3-4 feet above ground level to Tampa Bay. A Tampa Bay Times article () says in Pinellas County over 1,400 homes worth $176 million flooded; one death occurred.

Devastation and coastal erosion as 130-140 km/hr winds battered the north shore along with storm surge in Rustico PEI. Yesterday when we were here it was all under water. @weathernetwork @StormhunterTWN @NateTWN

I can't even stress enough just how frightening of a scenario this is. Merely 1-2 days ago, the northern tip of the Philippines was anticipating a strong tropical storm/weak typhoon. Instead, a location to the south has less than 24 hours to prepare for a Category 5 landfall.

Thanks to all the media for their great reporting and support #ECCC and #NWS forecasters and everyone trying to warn people and have them safe. The model developers also did an amazing job. Canadian numerical models rock.
